Application and Admission Requirements and Procedures for the Master of Arts (MA) Program

Two academic reference letters (applicants who hold a diploma from the Bogazici University History Department are exempt).

A statement of purpose up to 1500 words, type-written in English, stating the applicant’s research interests (those applying for English Prep class can provide this in Turkish).

Undergraduate Diploma. A copy of the diploma authenticated by a notary public or an official certificate of graduation taken from the undergraduate school are accepted. For those who have not yet graduated, an official letter stating the expected graduation date will also be accepted.

Official transcripts that show all the undergraduate and graduate (if any) courses taken, grades received, and the grade point averages obtained.

Undergraduate GPA: Minimum 2.75/4.00

ALES Score (For Turkish Applicants): Minimum Verbal (Sözel)/General Score (EA): 60

GRE Score (for Foreign Applicants, and for Turkish Applicants to be used instead of the ALES).

Minimum Quantitative Test score: 151 (650 old)

Minimum Verbal Test Score: 149 (430 old)

Minimum Analytical Writing Test Score: 3.5

Proof of English Proficiency:

BUEPT or TOEFL 550

TWE 4.5 or TOEFL (IBT) 79

TWE 22 or IELTS Academic 6.5, Academic Writing Section: 6.5

 

Departmental Exams

Written Exam Date: 5 May 2017

Written Exam Hour/Place: 17:00 / NH 101

Oral Exam/Interview Date: 12-13 May 2017

Oral Exam/Interview Hour/Place: 10:00 / University Cultural Heritage Museum

 

Application and Admission Requirements and Procedures for the Doctorate (PhD) Program

 

Two academic reference letters (applicants who hold an M.A. diploma from the Boğaziçi University History Department are exempt).

A statement of purpose up to 2500 words, type-written in English, stating the applicant’s research interests.

Writing sample: Copy of the Master's Thesis (or a chapter of it if not yet finished) or an article.

Undergraduate and Graduate Diplomas. A copy of the diploma authenticated by a notary public or an official certificate of graduation taken from the undergraduate school are accepted. For those who have not yet graduated, an official letter stating the expected graduation date will also be accepted.

Graduate (Master's) GPA: Minimum 3.00/4.00

ALES Score (For Turkish Applicants): Minimum Verbal (Sözel) or General Score (EA): 65.

GRE Score (for Foreign Applicants, and for Turkish Applicants to be used instead of the ALES).

Minimum Quantitative Test score: 153 (680 old)

Minimum Verbal Test Score: 150 (450 old)

Minimum Analytical Writing Test Score: 3.5

Proof of English Proficiency: BUEPT or TOEFL 550,

TWE 4.5 or TOEFL (IBT) 79,

TWE 22 or IELTS Academic 6.5, Academic Writing Section: 6.5.

 

YDS/ÜDS/KPDS Minimum score of 55 or any score deemed equivalent by the Interuniversity Committee (Üniversitelerarası Kurul).

NOTE : Applicants should submit GRE and TOEFL scores by the application deadline, 20 April 2017.

The applicants who are unable to provide ALES, YDS and BUEPT scores by the application deadline  (20 April, 2017) MUST upload their proof of registration for those exams. ALES scores should be submitted by 6 June 2017.
